A Makeup Artist's Guide to 5 Stunning Wedding Venues in Nottinghamshire
As a Nottingham-based wedding makeup artist, I have the immense pleasure of working at some of the most breathtaking venues our county has to offer. From historic manors to rustic barns, the setting of your wedding day plays a huge role in the overall atmosphere and, of course, your bridal style. I've put together a list of five of my favourite Nottinghamshire venues, each offering a unique backdrop for your special day and endless inspiration for your makeup look.
1. Wollaton Hall & Deer Park An Elizabethan masterpiece right on our doorstep, Wollaton Hall is pure drama and romance. The grandeur of the Great Hall and the beautiful surrounding parkland call for a timeless, elegant bridal look. Think classic soft glam: flawless skin that glows, defined eyes with a soft liner, and a classic pink or nude lip. This is the venue for a bride who wants to feel like royalty.
2. The Carriage Hall, Plumtree For a more contemporary and rustic-luxe feel, The Carriage Hall is a stunning choice. With its exposed brickwork, vaulted ceilings, and beautiful natural light, it's a makeup artist's dream. This setting pairs beautifully with a modern, radiant makeup look—think dewy skin, warm bronze tones on the eyes, fluffy brows, and a soft, kissable lip colour. It’s effortlessly chic and sophisticated.
3. Swancar Farm Country House Nestled in the countryside, Swancar Farm offers a perfect blend of rustic charm and elegance. The restored 16th-century barn provides a warm, intimate atmosphere. For a Swancar bride, I love creating a romantic and ethereal look. Soft, diffused eyeshadows, rosy cheeks that give a 'lit-from-within' glow, and individual lashes to create a fluttery, natural effect are perfect here.
4. Norwood Park A magnificent Georgian country house set within a private estate, Norwood Park exudes grace and sophistication. The light-filled rooms and stunning gardens are the epitome of English elegance. This venue calls for a polished and refined makeup look. A flawless, semi-matte foundation, beautifully sculpted features, and perhaps a slightly bolder lip for the evening reception would be simply stunning.
5. Hazel Gap Barn Part of the Cripps & Co family, Hazel Gap Barn is a spectacular setting with its red-brick arches and fairy-lit courtyard. It manages to be both grand and intimate at the same time. This venue is perfect for a bride wanting a truly glamorous look. We can play with warm, shimmery eyeshadows, a soft winged liner to elongate the eyes, and glowing, highlighted skin that will catch the light of the fire pits and fairy lights beautifully.
