Privacy policy
Last updated: October 2026
1. Who I am
Makeup by Abigail is run by Abigail Knight, a sole trader based in Nottingham. I am the data controller for personal information collected through this website. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact me at clients@makeupbyabigail.com.
2. What I collect
- Enquiries: your name, email address, phone number, the date and kind of occasion, where you need me, the time you need to be ready by, how many people need makeup, whether you need hair as well, anything you write in your message, and any photos of looks you send me. This includes enquiries you send me through Hitched or Instagram, which I add to my records.
- Messages: the emails and messages we exchange while arranging your booking, and my notes of our calls and texts.
- Photos of my work: photos of your makeup, which my booking terms let me share on this website and Instagram unless you ask me in writing not to.
- Technical data: standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) used to keep the site secure and working. Vercel Web Analytics also counts page visits without cookies and without identifying you.
- Optional analytics: only if you accept optional cookies, which pages you look at and what you tap or click (Google Analytics and PostHog), including recordings of how a page was used with anything you type hidden, so I can make the site easier to use.
There are no customer accounts and no online payments on this site. Deposits and balances are paid by bank transfer and arranged directly with you by message or email.
3. How I use it, and my legal grounds
- To reply to your enquiry, quote for your booking and arrange your trial and your day: the steps needed before and under my agreement with you.
- To keep a record of bookings I have done: my legitimate interest in running the business, and my legal obligations for tax and accounting.
- To show my work: photos of your makeup on this website and Instagram, under my booking terms, unless you have asked me not to.
- To keep the site secure: my legitimate interest in protecting the business and its visitors.
- To see in more detail how the site is used, so I can make it better: only with your consent, given through the cookie banner.
- To count visits without cookies: my legitimate interest in knowing the site is working.
4. Who I share it with
I never sell your personal information. It is shared only with the services that run this website for me: Resend (sending enquiry and confirmation emails), Vercel and DigitalOcean (hosting the website and its data, and counting visits without cookies), Google Analytics and PostHog (only if you accept optional cookies; PostHog keeps its data in the EU) and russle, the studio that built and looks after the site and the app I use to reply to enquiries. Some of these providers are based in the United States; where data leaves the UK it is protected by UK-approved safeguards such as the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. I may also share information where the law requires it.
5. How long I keep it
Enquiries and messages are kept for as long as I need them to arrange your booking and for my records afterwards, then deleted. Booking records that form part of my accounts are kept for six years to meet tax rules.
6. Cookies
This site sets only strictly necessary cookies by default, to make the site work and remember your cookie choice. Optional analytics cookies run only if you choose "Accept all" on the cookie banner, and you can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser cookies. Nothing else is set.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access a copy of your personal information, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how I use it, take it with you in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time where consent is the basis I rely on. To exercise any of these rights, contact me at clients@makeupbyabigail.com and I will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how I handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
8. Changes to this policy
I may update this privacy policy from time to time and will post any changes on this page with a revised "last updated" date.
