Charlotte Tilbury Bridal Makeup: Notes from an Ex CT Artist

How my training at Charlotte Tilbury shapes my bridal makeup: skin prep before anything else, a long-wearing base, and the rest of the kit I trust.

I trained and worked at Charlotte Tilbury in Nottingham, and it still shapes every face I do. Brides often ask whether I use Charlotte Tilbury on the wedding morning. I do, and here is how, along with the rest of my kit.

Skin prep comes first

The biggest thing I learnt there is the one I repeat most: you cannot have amazing makeup without the skin prep first. Every bride, bridesmaid and mother of the bride in my chair starts with a mini facial and Charlotte Tilbury skincare. Hydrated, calm skin takes makeup evenly, needs less of it and still looks fresh in the evening.

A base that lasts

For brides I want a base that looks like skin up close and holds all day. Charlotte Tilbury's Airbrush Flawless foundation is one I reach for when a bride wants it to last and look really flawless, built up in thin layers and only where it is needed.

Glow, not shine

The Charlotte Tilbury look is famous for glowing skin, and that is what most of my brides want. The trick is putting glow on the high points of the face and keeping it off the places that turn shiny in photographs, such as the forehead and around the nose.

The rest of my kit

Charlotte Tilbury is the heart of my kit, alongside Vieve, Laura Mercier, NARS and Victoria Beckham Beauty. I use high-end, long-wearing products only, and I choose them for each face rather than for the brand name: one bride needs a bit more coverage, another needs a cream blush that will not cling to dry skin.

Want the same products afterwards?

At your trial I write down every product I use on you, so the morning holds no surprises. It also means you can buy your wedding lipstick to keep.

Allergies and sensitive skin

If you have allergies or sensitive skin, tell me before your trial. I can choose products to suit, and the trial is the right time to check how your skin feels.

You can read more about how I work on my about page, or send me your date to book a trial.
